Frequently asked questions
Check out our docs site for more FAQs and in depth guides, or contact support@safercities.com and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.
How do I share my CCTV / ANPR with Police and others?
Connecting a vGRID Gateway to your network provides a secure connection between your existing CCTV / ANPR assets and the vGRID SaferCity Platform.
Once installed the vGRID Gateway can be configured to share any nominated cameras with any vGRID App users that you authorise.
Is vGRID the same as a Video Management System (VMS)?
vGRID is not a VMS and does not record or manage your cameras. vGRID partners with VMSes to provide a secondary connection for sharing with 3rd parties. Is my existing system supported, or are upgrades required?
vGRID has been designed to integrate with your existing system, reducing the cost and complexity of sharing your existing assets.
We have never come across a system we cannot integrate with at some level. For a full list of supported vendors please contact us.
How long does it take to connect to the vGRID SaferCity Platform?
Connections typically take 1-2 weeks, with the longest part being the discovery; gathering the information required for connection. Once the connection details are supplied, the vGRID Gateway can be installed and connected to your cameras in hours. Can I share with other third parties, as well as Police?
Yes! vGRID enables you to share with any level of functionality from as many cameras as you choose with as many organisations as you would like. The organsiations simply need to also be using the vGRID App.
Can I provide evidential video footage to Police or other agencies?
Yes, using vGRID Vault, Police or other agencies can send you a Vault request to your email, even if you are not a vGRID user, and you can securely provide any evidence you may have.
vGRID Vault is secure and preserves the chain of custody while minimising interruptions to your business with staff turning up with USB sticks and requesting footage on the spot.
My CCTV system is already accessible from the local Police Station, why do I need vGRID?
Local connections to individual systems are great when there is an officer at the station and only one system. However, Police are often on patrol or responding to jobs, or require access to multiple systems at once.
vGRID provides Police access to all shared systems from any location; stations, mobile phones, district/state command centres, emergency communication centres and more.
Is connecting to vGRID compliant with the Privacy Act (or equivalent)?
Yes, vGRID is compliant with the Privacy Act 2020 in New Zealand, and with the relevant Privacy legislation in each state in Australia. Our privacy stance has been reviewed by the NZ Privacy Commissioner. Is connecting to vGRID secure?
Yes, vGRID actually improves the security of sharing cameras and information with third-parties. This is because the vGRID gateway does not require port forwarding or opening your security network directly to the internet.
